In Friday’s (3/1) Times Union (Albany, NY), Katherine Kiessling writes, “Albany Symphony unveiled a 2024-25 season full of masterworks, world premieres from award-winning composers, acclaimed soloists, and a guest conductor with local roots. The season continues Albany Symphony’s tradition of pairing classic canon—Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Vivaldi, and more—with contemporary composers, including premiere works…. Tchaikovsky’s First Concerto, famous for its series of pounding chords, and a world premiere from Pulitzer Prize-composer Tania León will launch the season on Oct. 19 at the Palace Theatre. ‘Pregon,’ León’s latest, pulls inspiration from the Havana pregoneros, or town criers, of her childhood in Cuba. Additional season highlights include a holiday celebration of Mozart and Vivaldi joined by a world premiere guitar concerto from Nicky Sohn.” Also on the slate are works by Barber, Ravel, John Williams, and more. “The season concludes with the American Music Festival, held on June 14, 2025 at EMPAC. The 2025 festival, entitled ‘Water Music,’ will feature the world premiere of Chinese American composer Bobby Ge’s orchestral tone-poem of the same name. Clarice Assad’s Percussion Quartet Concerto, with members of Third Coast Percussion, and Sophia Jani’s ‘What do Flowers do at Night?’ round out the festival.”
